Securing Windows XP Fresh Installs

Troubleshooting operating system issues with Windows XP is really a headache, if you don’t have the right tools (software and hard) to do the job. Most of these common issues are; computers being infected with malware, trojans, viruses teaming up with each other, and users who just don’t know how the keyboard works, and to not to mention quite a few.

Here are steps to make to make your installations trouble and secure free:

1. A computer with a cd-rom (the cd-rom first must be selected to be the first order of the bootup sequence) by configuring the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) or refer to its manual.

2. Have your installation cds prepared, i.e.; windows xp sp2, motherboard drivers etc.

3. Place your windows xp cd in the cd-rom drive and start installing. (follow on-screen instructions and you’re good to go.

4.After the installing windows xp, eject cd-rom drive and replace cd with motherboard drivers the install necessary drivers.

5.Visit the http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx update website, and the site ask for “active-x” click the button and proceed. You can also download Windows XP SP3, it is available. (test it first on a staging machine before deploying)

6.Install Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage and backup the image to a removable media via DVD or any.

7. Install DeepFreeze version 6. No matter how many times your computer is infected, once it is restarted, your computer is back to its original settings and therefore making it bulletproof.

8. Lastly anti-virus of your choice (I recommend NOD32 v3.XX) very light on the system does not chew up computer resources.

In case your computer misbehaves for some reason or another, simply reload the backup images you created.

Note: in deploying backup images it is suggested that you have same machine/s with the same specifications, deploying it to other machines of not of the same specs will render your computer bootless. (won't boot at all)

Cheers
